Description of EHDI Program
  • Virginia’s Newborn Hearing Screening Program - Handout Coming Soon

    Babies Diagnosed with Hearing Loss
  • Virginia's Resource Guide for Parents | Spanish

A videotape version of the resource guide is now available!
The video, entitled Information for Parents of Children with Hearing Loss, is presented in American Sign Language, spoken English, and open captions.

The video was designed to be used by parents who are themselves deaf or hard of hearing. However, the video can be used as a first-line orientation for all parents of children with hearing loss. The primary purpose of the resource guide and video is to provide parents with basic and unbiased information regarding: 1) hearing loss, its effects
and implications; 2) communication options; 3) amplification; 4) state agency programs and services; and, 5) local, state and national resources.

The major impact of the video is in the interviews with parents. Eight parents were filmed discussing various aspects of their experiences, including dealing with the diagnosis and choosing options for communication, and offering advice to other parents. Copies are
available from the VEHDI Program office. Call 804-864-7717 or email darlene.donnelly@vdh.virginia.gov.
