Program to Enhance the Health & Development of Infants and Children (PEHDIC)
Learn about the PEHDIC, a five-year cooperative agreement between the AAP and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that aims to translate critical research and guidelines focused on preventive health care, continuity of care, and transition to adulthood into practice, as well as expand provider and public education related to health promotion and disease prevention. In the first year of the agreement, the PEHDIC will focus on early hearing detection and intervention, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, birth defects (specifically congenital heart defects), newborn screening, and H1N1 influenza recommendations for children with special health care needs. In addition, the Neuromotor Screening Initiative is focusing on the importance of surveillance and screening of motor development in the medical home.
