The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has announced this opportunity for twenty grants of up to $200,000 to be awarded to organizations and agencies working to implement policy or system changes to address social or economic factors that influence health outcomes in their community.

Community-Based Partnerships for Childhood Obesity Prevention and Control
Applications Due: May 7, 2012
The purpose of this funding opportunity from the NIH is to enhance childhood obesity research by fostering the formation of local, state, or regional teams consisting of researchers, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders (eg, community representatives, public health practitioners or officials, educators) in order to identify research questions and hypotheses, design and implement the relevant research, and translate the research into evidence relevant to potential policy efforts in this area.

Improving the Health of People with Disabilities through State Based Public Health Programs

HRSA Public Health Internship Program

This Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Public Health Internship Program enables graduate and undergraduate students to experience Federal service through a one semester rotation at HRSA. Participants have frequent contact with HRSA public health experts in one of a wide-range of disciplines including, but not limited to, rural health policy, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, health care systems, and program analysis and evaluation.

The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation seeks to fund projects that directly serve or impact children living in urban poverty, particularly in the areas of education, childhood health, and family economic stability.

The Hearst Foundations offer funding to direct medical services that promote wellness, prevention, and rehabilitation. Specific areas of interest include cancer, geriatrics, neonatology, perinatology, pediatrics, women's health, and the disabled.

Healthy Community Grants Program and the Healthy Community Outreach Program, Aetna and Aetna Foundation
Applications Due: Ongoing
This program fund community-based initiatives that increase access to quality health care and improve overall wellness in the areas of depression and obesity. Proposals must incorporate and/or demonstrate impact on either expansion of primary caregiver role and/or community care delivery. Health professions training and support programs to address the growing shortage of skilled nurses and representation of racially and ethnically diverse health care professionals across the continuum as well as health care professionals' cultural competency.
