Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), Office of Rural Health Policy, Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant

The major focus of the Network Planning Grant Program is to provide support to rural entities in the development of formal health care networks. The network members should not have a significant history of collaboration and prior collaboration among the Network members is not required. Formative networks are not sufficiently evolved to apply for a three year Rural Health Network Development implementation grant and do not have a formalized structure. The grant program supports one year of planning to develop and assist health care networks become operational. Research to Aid Persons with Disabilities from the National Science Foundation

The Research to Aid Persons with Disabilities (RAPD) program supports research that will lead to the development of new technologies, devices, or software for persons with disabilities. Research may be supported that is directed to the characterization, restoration, and/or substitution of human functional ability or cognition, or to the interaction of persons with disabilities and their environment. Areas of particular recent interest are disability-related research in neuroscience/neuroengineering and rehabilitation robotics.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change

Program Area: Quality/Equality
Purpose: Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change seeks to improve the quality of health care provided to patients from racial and ethnic backgrounds likely to experience disparities.
Finding Answers will:
- grant funds to discover and evaluate practical and replicable solutions designed to reduce and eliminate disease-specific racial and ethnic health care disparities;
- focus on interventions aimed at health care delivery for one or more of the following health concerns: cardiovascular disease, depression and/or diabetes;
- conduct systematic reviews of the literature regarding racial and ethnic health care disparities interventions; and disseminate results from these research efforts and systematic reviews to encourage
health care systems to address racial and ethnic gaps in care.

U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration AIDS/HIV Funding Opportunity

The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration's Ryan White CARE Act authorizes grants for outpatient and ambulatory health and support services to Eligible Metropolitan Areas (EMAs) and transitional grant areas. These grants fund systems of community-based care, including medical and other health and social support services, for individuals with HIV/AIDS in EMAs. For more information click here.
American Association of People with Disabilities Invites Applications for Paul G. Hearne Leadership Award

In 2009, the American Association of People with Disabilities will once again recognize outstanding individuals personifying leadership, advocacy, and dedication to and for the disability community at large with the Paul G. Hearne Leadership Award.
Three individuals who are emerging as leaders in the cross-disability civil rights movement will each receive $10,000 to help them continue their progress as leaders and further connect their work with the national grassroots of AAPD. The recipients of the 2009 Hearne Leadership Awards will also have an opportunity to meet and network with national disability leaders at the AAPD Leadership Gala in Washington, DC in March 2009.
An "emerging leader" is defined as someone who has demonstrated leadership qualities in his/her personal and professional life, and who has dedicated his/her passion to the pursuit of inclusion, equality, and justice for all people with disabilities. The ideal candidate is an advocate, teacher, mentor, and leader within the disability community, and is recognized as such at a local, regional or national level.
Residents of the United States with any type of disability and of any age are eligible to apply. The 44 previous awardees represent a diverse group of people with many different disabilities aged 11 to 56. Multiple Sclerosis Foundation Offers Support for Patient Needs

The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is accepting applications from individuals with multiple sclerosis across the United States for the Brighter Tomorrow grant program. The goal of the grant is to provide individuals with MS with goods or services (valued at up to $1,000 per recipient) to improve their quality of life by enhancing safety, self-sufficiency, comfort, or well-being. Recipients of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation's Brighter Tomorrow grant have received car repairs, ramps, wheelchairs, walkers, eyeglasses, computers, appliances, televisions, furniture, therapeutic equipment, hobby supplies, retreats, and various home modifications.
To qualify, a person must be 18 years of age or older and diagnosed with MS, or the parent of a minor child diagnosed with MS, and be a permanent U.S. resident. They must not have any other means of fulfilling the need they express. Applicants are asked to provide basic personal and financial information, and to write a brief essay of 100 words or less to describe how the grant would help them have A Brighter Tomorrow.

Healthy Tomorrows Funding Opportunity from the US Health Resources and Services Administration

The Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program is a cooperative agreement program between the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Federal grants of up to $50,000 per year for 5 years are awarded through the program to support community-based child health projects that improve the health status of mothers, infants, children, and adolescents by increasing their access to health services. Transforming Safety Net Clinics into Medical Homes: Call for Proposals

The Commonwealth Fund, together with Qualis Health and the MacColl Institute for Healthcare Innovation, have launched a new initiative to transform 50 primary care safety net clinics into patient-centered medical homes. The goal of the Safety Net Medical Home Initiative is to develop and demonstrate a replicable and sustainable implementation model for medical home transformation.
Through a request for proposal process, four regional coordinating centers will be selected to help transform 12 to 15 safety net clinics per region--for a total of 50 clinics--into high-performing medical homes. These regional coordinating centers--which could include professional affiliations of safety net providers/practices, state primary care associations, and state Medicaid agencies, among other entities--will receive expert technical assistance and up to $500,000 over four years to support a Medical Home Facilitator, who will lead the clinics through practice transformation and quality improvement exercises. In addition, regional coordinating centers will partner with both the safety net providers and community stakeholders to advance the medical home in Medicaid and pursue other policy reform efforts in their states.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation's Children's Health Insurance Grants

The goal of The David and Lucile Packard Foundation's Children's Health Insurance grants is to ensure that all children have health insurance that provides them access to health care appropriate to their needs. Funding is focused on maximizing participation in public programs, for which most uninsured children are eligible, and supporting new and innovative programs to meet the remaining unmet needs for children's health insurance.

United Healthcare Children's Foundation Grants Available for Families Struggling with Child Health-Related Costs

The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation Children's Foundation has announced that new grants are available to help children who need critical health care treatment, services, or equipment not covered or not fully covered by their parents' health benefit plans.
UHCCF provides grants to families to help pay for child health care services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy sessions, prescriptions, and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, orthotics, and eyeglasses.
Parents and legal guardians may apply for grants of up to $5,000 each for child medical services and equipment by completing an online application at the UHCCF Web site. To be eligible for grants, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States, and be covered by a commercial health benefit plan.
