New Catalogue of Federal Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Activities
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has unveiled a Catalogue of Federal PCMH Activities on its patient-centered medical home (PCMH) Web site. The catalogue summarizes the PCMH-related work and collaborations of departments and agencies participating in a federal PCMH collaborative. In addition to the catalogue, the Web site contains the AHRQ definition of the PCMH, white papers on care coordination and the medical neighborhood, decision makers’ briefs on health IT and patient engagement, and a searchable database of articles relating to the PCMH.

New Hospital Pediatrics Journal from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
The AAP now offers the only medical journal dedicated to hospital pediatrics. Each semi-annual issue of Hospital Pediatrics delivers relevant content related to evidence-based medicine, illustrative cases, neonatology, critical care, palliative care, infectious diseases, ethics, quality and safety, and community hospital medicine. Video—It’s Natural (to Want to Know About Your Baby’s Hearing)
The National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) works to ensure that all infants and toddlers with hearing loss are identified as early as possible and provided with timely and appropriate audiological, educational, and medical intervention. NCHAM has developed the new It's Natural video for parents of newborns to learn about their child’s hearing screening.

New AAP Children's Oral Health Web Site
The AAP has launched the Children's Oral Health Web site which includes an oral health practice tools page, state oral health information, the recently revised Protecting All Children's Teeth Online Training and more. New Reports from the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Expert Panel
The IPEC Expert Panel has released two reports recommending new competencies for interprofessional education in the health professions. The IPEC is comprised of six associations—the Association of American Medical Colleges, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Dental Education Association, and the Association of Schools of Public Health.

Paving the Way to Adult Health Care—New Clinical Report on Health Care Transition
August 10—2 to 3pm (Eastern)
This webinar, hosted by Got Transition (the new National Health Care Transition Center) and co-sponsored by the AAP, will discuss the new clinical report—Supporting Health Care Transition from Adolescence to Adulthood in the Medical Home. The clinical report was jointly authored by the AAP, AAFP, and ACP and provides practical guidance on how to plan and execute better health care transitions for all patients. During the webinar, one of the lead authors, Dr Carl Cooley, will walk attendees through the clinical report including the accompanying algorithm. During the webinar, the guidance provided in the clinical report will also be linked to the three Got Transition learning collaboratives involving pediatric and adult health care settings in Washington, DC, Boston, MA, and Denver, CO; a brief overview of the quality improvement initiatives in these states also will be highlighted in the webinar. Newborn Screening: Improving Outcomes Webcast

Presented by the CDC, the Public Health Grand Rounds is a monthly webcast created to foster discussion on major public health issues. Each session focuses on key challenges related to a specific health topic, and explores cutting-edge scientific evidence and potential impact of different interventions. This session will focus on topics such as: current practices and expansion of newborn screening (NBS), family experiences with disorders and screening, laboratory matters in NBS, health impact and return on investment, and closing gaps and improving outcomes after NBS through national partnerships. URAC Releases Patient Centered Health Care Home Practice Achievement Program
URAC has released their Patient Centered Health Care Home (PCHCH) Practice Achievement program, an extension of the overall URAC PCHCH programs, which provides recognition for practices that meet the essential elements of a patient centered health care home. The URAC PCHCH Practice Achievement Standards address practice access, coordination, quality, and patient centeredness. Practices may be evaluated for one of two levels of recognition by a URAC reviewer or an organization with URAC PCHCH Auditor Certification.

Text4Baby State Enrollment Contest
Text4Baby—a free text messaging service to promote maternal and child health by providing pregnant women and new moms with weekly messages on pregnancy and baby care—has launched the State Enrollment Contest to encourage moms to engage with the program. The top 3 states to enroll the most users in text4baby before the end of October 2011 will win a sponsored luncheon and press conference for partners in their state. New Brief on CYSHCN and Medicaid
The Georgetown University Center for Children and Families (CCF) has released a new brief titled Medicaid and its Role for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN): A Family Perspective. In the brief, researchers review the current data on CYSHCN and Medicaid, summarize the routes to Medicaid coverage for CYSHCN, and outline state-level policy options that would increase CYSHCN accessibility to Medicaid. Throughout the paper, family stories convey the reality of what CYSHCN and their families experience and how vital Medicaid is to their survival.

Interactive Tool to Analyze Health Care Data
The AHRQ NHQRDRnet online query system features data from the 2010 National Healthcare Quality Report and the National Healthcare Disparities Report. This tool allows you to find quality-of-care data on clinical conditions ranging from asthma and diabetes to heart disease and cancer at the state and national level. Data can be reviewed by specific age groups as well as by race, ethnicity, income, and education.

Survey Regarding Emergency Experiences of Users of Personal Assistant Services
The Center on Disability the Public Health Institute along with the Center for Personal Assistance Services at UC San Francisco is conducting a research study to determine promising practices in preparing for emergencies among individuals with disabilities who use personal assistance services (PAS). This survey is for individuals that utilize PAS and have experienced disasters or emergencies.  The survey should take approximately ten to fifteen minutes to complete. Respondents will be entered into a drawing to win one of five $50 gift cards.

HRSA and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health (NIMHD/NIH), in collaboration with the JHCPU, have partnered to publish a special theme issue—Evidence for Informing the Next Generation of Quality Improvement Initiatives: Models, Methods, Measures and Outcomes—that  addresses quality improvement initiatives related to clinical care outcomes, health systems delivery, organizational efficiencies, financing models, reducing medical errors, improving patient safety, and communications. Texting to Prevent Birth Defects
Not all birth defects can be prevented; however, a woman can increase her chances of having a healthy baby by taking some easy steps. To help women remember those steps, the Prevention Research Team at the CDC National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) has developed a health campaign using mobile text messages. New Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Quality Improvement Web Site
The HRSA Office of Health IT and Quality and Office of Communications has redesigned its Quality Improvement (QI) Web site. The new Web site aggregates QI resources, as well as QI information from HRSA federal and non-federal partners, including patient safety tools, quality indicators, and a health measure inventory.

The IHI has unveiled its redesigned Web site. Some of the offerings on the site include: the Knowledge Center—which is the content "library" featuring tools, change ideas, measures, improvement stories, and other resources to support your improvement efforts; the Explore by Interest section provides a more in-depth look at key topic areas by gathering content from across the site; and the IHI Offerings section which hosts information on training and skill-building learning opportunities. Medical Home Implementation Webinar Series Recordings Now Available!
The AAP and the NCMHI hosted a FREE four part continuing medical education (CME) webinar series this year that provided child health professionals with practical strategies for implementing medical home in practice. These webinars were led by recognized experts with the goal of educating participants about the value of the family‐centered primary care medical home for all children and youth, especially in the daily delivery of preventive, acute, and chronic care. Archived recordings of the webinar and slide sets from the events are available on the NCMHI Web site.
